What we mean by “likely independent”
We use likely independent to describe a practice that, based on publicly available information and our classification process, appears to operate without a disclosed affiliation with a larger corporate group, management organization, branded network, regional consolidator, or investment-backed platform.
This classification does not necessarily mean that we have verified the practice's complete legal ownership structure. Healthcare practices may use professional corporations, management companies, service agreements, shared branding, joint ventures, or other arrangements that are not always visible from public sources.
In general, a practice may be classified as likely independent when available information suggests that the practice is primarily associated with one or more individual clinicians, local owners, or small private partnerships, rather than a larger multi-location organization.

What we mean by “likely corporate”
We use likely corporate to describe a practice that, based on publicly available information and our classification process, appears to be affiliated with, owned by, managed by, branded by, or otherwise connected to a larger corporate, multi-location, or investment-backed organization.
This may include support organizations, management services organizations or agreements, multi-location practice groups, branded networks, regional consolidators, franchise or platform-affiliated models, and institutional investor-backed or corporate parent organizations.
Because healthcare ownership and management structures can be complex, likely corporate does not always mean that the corporate entity directly owns the professional clinical practice. In some cases, the professional practice may be legally owned by licensed clinicians while a separate organization provides management, administrative, branding, staffing, real estate, marketing, billing, or other business services.
